Forty Second Annual Meeting

Eastern North Carolina Association
Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ

Oak Level UCC | October 11, 2008
Registration Begins at 8:30 a.m.

On September 4, 2008, President Jay Kennett officially called for the Forty Second Annual Meeting to be held on October 11, 2008 at Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson, North Carolina. According to Kennett, ministers, lay leaders, and friends are asked "to renew friendships and acquaintances, worship, learn, fellowship, gather for a meal and do the work of the church." The theme for the meeting is "We've Got People" inspired by John 17:20-21.

During the business portions of the program, member churches are allowed one voting delegate per 100 members. Joining these delegates will be licensed, commissioned, and ordained ministers with standing in the Eastern North Carolina Association. Beyond the announced business of the meeting, attendees will take part in plenary sessions and workshops designed to reinforce the Association's sense of community and covenant.

There will also be exhibits, displays, and special events for youth and children. Child care is available, but only for pre-registered attendees.

Registration is underway and fees vary depending on when you register. For more information, contact the ENCA office at (336) 343-4066. Questions about the program and meeting format should be directed to Association President Jay Kennett, Associate Conference Minister Vertie Powers, or Area Conference Ministers K. Ray Hill and Phil Hardy.

President Jay Kennett's Vision for 2008

Last December the Board of Directors met for our first meeting since the election of new members at the Associational Meeting in October.  Our meeting included prayer, orientation to the board, business and a sharing of our hopes and dreams for the Association.  We as a board have committed ourselves to being more available to the churches and to carrying forth the vision of Appreciative Inquiry and the unifying Spirit of God that was felt at our Annual Meeting. Our hopes and dreams reflect this commitment and I would like to share some of those dreams with you. Read Jay's vision for the ENCA.

Powers to Lead Southern Conference Church Development

It is no secret that the Southern Conference has fallen on hard times and lived to view those difficult times through the lens of hindsight.  We, staff and conference leadership, have discussed and deliberated for a time how we could find a path toward transformation in the life of the church and conference.  The time has now come.
